This beautifully crafted melodrama is handsomely presented and skilfully moves between the two periods of post World War II and 1980s France, inspired by the director’s own family history. The young director Anne questions her heritage: did her parents who divorced when she was little ever really love each other and if so, why did they separate?

With these questions which arise on the death of her mother, she begins to write a screenplay based on her parents’ story and the discovery of the love triangle that developed when the newlyweds Michel and Lena were mysteriously joined by Michel’s brother Jean, who it was assumed had perished in the war.
